Candle Care
A few simple rituals to help you enjoy a cleaner, longer-lasting burn.
At Glim & Glam, each candle is hand-poured in small batches using natural soy wax and premium fragrance oils. Proper candle care is essential to ensure an even burn, a beautiful scent throw, and the longest possible burn time.
Before Lighting
Trim the wick
Before each burn, trim your cotton wick to around 5mm. This helps prevent excessive smoke, soot, and uneven burning.
Place on a stable surface
Always burn your candle on a flat, heat-resistant surface, away from drafts, curtains, pets, and children.
The First Burn Matters Most
The first burn sets the memory of your candle.
Allow the wax to melt evenly all the way to the edges of the vessel during the first burn. This usually takes around 2–4 hours, depending on the candle size.
This helps prevent tunnelling and ensures an even burn throughout the candle’s life.
During Each Burn
Burn for 2–4 hours at a time
For best results, avoid burning your candle for less than 2 hours or more than 4 hours in one session.
Keep the wax clean
Remove wick trimmings, matches, or debris from the wax pool to maintain a clean burn.
Avoid moving the candle while lit
The vessel may become hot during use. Allow it to cool completely before handling.
Extinguishing Your Candle
For the cleanest finish, use a candle snuffer or carefully dip the wick into the melted wax and straighten it again.
This helps minimise smoke and preserves the fragrance.
Avoid blowing the candle out too forcefully, as this can create smoke and disturb the wax.
When to Stop Burning
Discontinue use when approximately 1cm of wax remains at the bottom of the jar.
Burning beyond this point may cause the vessel to overheat.
Reusing Your Vessel
Once your candle is finished, your vessel can be cleaned and reused.
To remove leftover wax:
-
Place the vessel in warm water to soften the wax
-
Gently remove any residue
-
Wash with warm soapy water and dry thoroughly
Our jars are designed to be repurposed for everyday use or refilled.
